interaction | experience design engineer
Hi! I am Michelle
a creative, social, enthusiastic interaction and experience design engineer, with a passion for design focused on enjoyment
through play, games and learning.

Who am I?
I am a self-directed learner who has the willingness and ability to learn continuously. I am an optimistic, ambitious and very pro-active person with a strong empathy towards people. Paired with dedication it makes me a good mediator and pragmatic designer; using what is needed for the context, combining methods and approaches. Additionally I have a hands-on, pro-active attitude and my expertise areas within the field of design are ‘Technology and Realization’, ‘Creativity and Aesthetics’, ‘User and Society’ and 'Play, Games and Learning'.
Why designing for games, play and learning?
Due to continuous innovation everything is happening more efficiently. Nevertheless people are and feel busier than ever. I reckon we should not always solely design for more efficiency. Instead I aim to empower people in using their imagination and encourage people to live life to the fullest; increasing enjoyment, inspiration and wonder.

design INTERESTs
I like doing user (market) research, creating a visual design or style and I like the technology side of design. May it be design activities revolving around users, making and crafting, programming algorithms, programming with databases, or well.... programming in general: I am your go-to designer.
Most of all I like that there is a lot of diversity in what I (can) do. And even though I aim to design for playful learning (often through active and social design), I also showcase within my projects that I can apply those playful elements to improve a design which is not primarily focused on learning or play; for example the D.O.G. project.
others about Michelle
“Working with Michelle has been a pleasant journey. She is very independent, but absolutely listens to advise and ideas from others. She carefully judges the critiques and picks out what she needs to grow. She also can stand for her own ideas strongly which shows a group where she wants to go.”
Ilone Bloemen,
Company coach Bruns bv, M2.2
“You are a very enthusiastic, positive and energetic spirit; which is visible in everything you do. You put a lot of effort in reaching your goals, no matter what it takes.”
Meerthe Heuvelings,
TU/e coach, B2.2
“To get the project in the right direction Michelle understood to keep her vision in mind and get the result she wanted. (..) She would be within 10% of the best interns. Based on the skills to take full responsibility to the project and also be able to make the right decisions when needed.”
Erik Groot,
Company coach B.engineering, M2.2
“You have impressively demonstrated that you are capable of managing a complex design process involving many stakeholders. You combine design skills with a talent for getting people to buy into your design (process). You are not a person to take no for an answer if you are certain that the answer should really be yes. You did very well these semesters. (...) To come to a conclusion, we are impressed by the quality of your design work (as well as the sheer amount of it) and are confident that you’ll be a force to be reckoned with in the office where you’ll work."

The goal of Secret Challenge | THE MUSEUM is to attract young adults to (art) museums. Where an art museum visit now offers an individual and passive experience, the concept changes a museum visit to a social, unique and active experience. This kind of experience fits better to the demand of the target group. »»» Read about the project in the projects section.
The concept is developed in cooperation with Bruns bv and B.engineering and was discussed with Rijksmuseum and Van Abbemuseum. Eventually it was tested at Van Abbemuseum, where one of the art transport cases was exhibited for 3 weeks.

Starting with cleaning and kitchen work I worked myself up to all-round bartender. I opened or closed on my own, cleaned, handled payments, served customers at the bar or terrace and redesigned the logo and menus.
During my time as bartender I developed my social skills and learned to work well under pressure. I also took part in a course about trapist-beers and beer brewing hosted by Beer Master.

In cooperation with S.O.S. street children high school students, chosen based on motivation, would visit Romania to help street children. In Romania we visited the ‘houses’ of the children, we worked for a week at the drop-by center that ensured a daily meal and help with homework, and organized a fun camp for the children; to take them away from their daily sorrows. Money was raised to both- organize the camp and to send the children to school or help with better living conditions. With the group we organized many activities to raise these funds.
I presented at a rotary club and raised over 4.200 euro with an sponsored run I organized and coordinated at an elementary school.

Developed in collaboration with Ikea and IDEO, is an interactive learning platform for healthy and sustainable food education. The project aims at addressing the societal challenge of obesity by stimulating children to enjoy cooking and appreciating food.
A kitchen was developed that can track what you are cooking with or using within the kitchen. We, together with children, designed games that combined school subjects such as geography, math and cultural studies with cooking and learning about food. Enabling schools to use the kitchen and cooking within their normal lesson plans.
I programmed a demonstration of the game working with origin of the ingredients: countries (topography), measuring and calculating within a recipe (math) and cultural awareness by means of a movie and questions about the ingredients/ dish/ origin country.
